I purchased this box area when I was looking for color footage of WW II. However, when I got it in the mail, it turned out that these were documentaries made in the 1940s and most of them were shown in movie theaters as a tribute to the American troops fighting oversees and to score more people to enlist. When I learned of this, I was a limited disappointed. After all, how gracious could 65 year primitive documentaries be, compared to the original ones they indicate on the History Channel or National Geographic? The retort is: VERY. I gain a lot of DVDs wth color footage of the Second World War but “World War II in Color” is by far the best of them all. Almost all of the action images of Allied fighter planes and bombers taking on Axis aircraft that you examine in the History Channel’s top-notch “the Lost Color Archives” series are taken from the films you’ll come by on these discs. Most of the other color documentaries I’ve seen point to amateur pictures taken by army officers or civilians that shot street images of marching soldiers, occupied cities or the ruined landscape and towns after the precise combat. Not so in this two disc box site. These pictures were shot by professional filmmakers who more often than not had earned their stripes in Hollywood or have had succesful careers in the movie industry after the war. The result of the life threatening risks they took to film this extrordinay footage is absolutely fantastic.

John Ford’s “The Battle of Midway” tells the epic of one of the greatest sea battles in history. You discover battle ships and allied fighters defend themselves against the relentless Japanese kamikaze attacks. Although this is my least accepted documentary, due to the rather amusing sense of humour that is sometimes indicate, it does provide us with plenty of breathtaking color images of the courageaous American fighter pilots in their quest to gather control over the Pacific.

“The Memphis Belle” is my absolute common WW II documentary. It tells the anecdote of an Allied bomber making its 25th and final flight across the English channel to wreak havoc on the German industry. We are shown how the pilots are debriefed: what flight formation they need to enjoy, what their targets are, etc. We are introduced to the crew and are shown what it was like for these men to recede to enemy soil and how a bombing actually takes spot. We stare some awesome aerial images of an entire fast of Allied fighters and bombers, ogle the gunners fight off Nazi airplanes and the downfall of one of their fill bombers, all while we are privy to internal radio communication over the intercom. The tension and dismay is clearly expose in the crew’s voices but they composed maintain their head chilly and find on with their jobs under life threatening circumstances. Afterwards we perceive the often damaged bombers return to English soil and stare the poor images of men wounded in aerial combat and having their often crippled bodies taken care of by the medics.

“Characterize from the Aleutians” shows American forces fighting unprejudiced as hard against nature as against the enemy. You examine Allied fighters steal of under the most dire circumstances and try to land wounded planes after the fight. This documentary may not feature the most impressive fighting images, but it does give us a respectable plan of what men had to endure on an island which has no peace time value whatsoever, since its harsh climate is unable to maintain human life, but wich became invaluable in wartime because of its strategic state. At the initiate of the War in the Pacific, this was as terminate as the Americans could secure to Japan’s home islands.

“Eyewitness to War” shows us who the audacious men were who shot the images we contemplate in World War II documentaries. This was actually a series of images shot and commented on by a professional film maker, hired by the US Army to shoot murky and white pictures of the events from the Normandy landing to the plunge of Berlin, so the military leaders could watch their hold tactics and improve them for future battles. The color footage you sight was shot by the fillm maker with his acquire camera so he could reveal his family and friends help home what he witnessed in occupied Europe. We contemplate images of the citizins of London who try to lead normal lives during the nightly bombings that occured every day, the boarding of ships and landing vessels trek for France, the Normandy landings and the soldiers’ daily routines while fighting their arrangement to Berlin with mention of the people in the film who did not form it assist.

“The Fighting Lady” is a military documentary about airplane carriers during the War in the Pacific. We are introduced to the crew and collect detailed information about the carriers themselves and what it was like to live inside them. There’s a lot of footage of fighters taking off from the carriers and wounded ones trying to execute it encourage. Some do and some don’t, which provide spectacular pictures. There are also a lot of images shot by cameras that are mounted on the fighters’ guns so we score a first-rate thought of what it was like to select enemy fighters and strafe Japanese airfields, with detailed explanation of what exactly is taking plot.

“The 6th Marines at Okinawa” is a documentary about the prefer of this Japanese island. Besides impressive jungle warfare images, it contains footage of the interrogation of POWs and striking pictures of an enemy soldier who has had to amputate his maintain leg to survive.

“The Last Bomb” tells of the fight of the American forces against the Japanese home islands. The documentary contains inviting footage of dog fights with enemy planes, the bombing of Japan, some gorgeous close-up shots of the P51 Mustangs and the B29 bombers in action and the plunge of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

In my opninion, this is a must have DVD box place for all World War II buffs. Especially if you like action shots of period American military aircraft, war ships, aiplane carriers, jeeps, tanks, halftracks and army trucks, you will not be disappointed.

This is one of those rare gems — a movie based on a stage play that is correct to the unique.

The premise is simple: a man and a woman happen to meet at a romantic Pacific wing inn in the 1950s, expend a night together, and sight that they’re both married — with children, no less! How do they deal with it? Well, after getting past the initial shock and guilt (she yells into a towel, he lies about his wife’s name and the number of children he has), they agree to meet every year, same weekend, same dwelling. We, the audience, are allowed to discover every 5th meeting in the same room.

We glimpse the changes in the relationship, the changes in each of the participants, the changing times. We salvage to know Doris and George through these slices of time, laugh with them, bellow with them, always with the inquire — will they ever leave their respective partners and follow their hearts? It’s definitely a relationship based more on mutual respect and friendship, despite its extra-marital foundation. You bag the feeling that these two individuals are truly soul-mates who fair happened to meet.

Alan Alda gives an improbable performance, beginning as a guilt-ridden rather milk-toast-ish accountant. Without giving away the position twists, he goes through many changes and personal crises, and tranquil manages to halt a reasonably likable, vulnerable man.

Ellen Burstyn, as Doris, enters into this as a rather ditzy young wife on her plot to a Catholic retreat with the nuns, who manages to grow up over the years. It’s a treat to stare the changes in these characters with each change of scene.

Bernard Slade’s unique two-person play with its witty dialogue is preserved almost intact, with only one current character in the movie that isn’t in the play (”former Mr. Chalmers”) . If anything, the movie improves the new through the music and photo montages that separate the scenes (the entre-acte song, “The Last Time I Felt Like This” was nominated for an Academy Award) .

This is definitely worth seeing for the profitable performances of Alda and Burstyn.

This movie brilliantly explores the plan of the stable and sustainable affair, built by two people so responsible and so “nice” they would never peruse such a thing, and once there never want injure to their spouses – but who accumulate their unique worship as compelling as their first and as impossible to leave. The origin of the affair here is almost an afterthought – the exact focus is on the maturing of the original relationship across a vast span of years.

This movie resonates with me because it is my chronicle – after finding one who would have been the adore of my life more than 20 years ago but who was then engaged, I did the “estimable” thing and let her go but never stopped loving her. Meeting again several years ago, we realized the mistake and despite both being married with children we began to meet once a year at a college reunion, holding that time aside for us while the rest of the year belonged to our spouses. The affair was not destined to mirror STNY (how did they ever preserve it secret? We couldn’t…) but the feelings haven’t changed – I objective don’t have the annual weekend to peruse forward to anymore…!!

The message of this movie that resonates so strongly is that it is possible to fancy two people deeply and romantically – and to preserve such feelings – and responsibilities – over a very long period. A fair minefield? Of course – but far from the typical Hollywood fantasy that filmgoers have concern identifying with.

The movie for me was a explore of a set that I have lived with for a long time – and I would wager that there are many like me who regain opinion and solace in this film. However, it is not only for those who can identify with the message – it brilliantly challenges your assumptions and world thought as the best movies tend to do.

I cannot ogle this film without crying at the ending – you are brought along in caring about the characters so strongly that their cherish becomes something that matters to you too.

Having customary out more than one copy of the VHS movie, I have desperately waited for its DVD release – and am absolutely thrilled tonight. I will be pre-ordering it immediately (maybe a couple copies…)

This movie may not be astonishing for those who dismiss adultery as gross without interrogate – but if you are willing to lower the barriers for two hours to at least hear out another side to the fable, you will be richly rewarded.

Highly recommended….

The first disc features 11 deleted and extended scenes. There’s more of the opening ambush with Tony Stark being more proactive. We also perceive more footage of Rhodes and it fast becomes apparent that he was the character with the most scenes carve from the film. We also ogle Tony and Pepper Potts help another party.

The second disc starts off with the impressive “I Am Iron Man,” a 108 itsy-bitsy making of documentary that can be viewed in seven segments or altogether, taking us through various aspects of the production. For example, we are taken step-by-step through the construction of the Iron Man armor with Robert Downey Jr. cracking jokes while being fitted for it. It’s unbelievable how considerable of the suit is practical and looks really righteous in person. This is due in broad section to the genius of the late-great Stan Winston and his company. Also included is plenty of soundstage footage of scenes being filmed.

“The Invincible Iron Man” is a six-part documentary on the funny book, tracing the history of the character. Stan Lee says that he modeled Stark after Howard Hughes, for the most section. He also mentions that he was never fully gratified with the examine of the armor – hence its many changes over the years. This doc also covers various key characters and storylines in gracious detail with several people who worked on the title over the years talking about their contribution to the mythos. This is a very well done overview of the silly book.

“Wired: The Visual Effects of Iron Man” examines the CGI work that went into realizing Iron Man’s powers, like flying, his repulsors, and so on. Director Jon Favreau says that he likes to utilize practical effects whenever possible, which is wonderfully refreshing to hear, and in this film he mixed the practical with CGI.

“Robert Downey Jr. Camouflage Test.” Incredibly, the actor had to do a cover test because the studio deemed him a unsafe proposition and this footage shows that he had a handle on the character very early on.

“The Actor’s Process” features lively footage of Jeff Bridges and Downey rehearsing a scene with Favreau. It’s sizable to peer these guys at work and offers insight into how they set together a scene from the film from an acting point-of-view.

“The Onion’s Wildly Well-liked Iron Man Trailer to be Adapted into Full-Length Film” is a comic satire where a newscaster “breaks” a epic of how the Iron Man trailer will be made into a film that pokes fun at the rabid nature of the hardcore fanbase of the character.

Finally, there are “Galleries,” featuring idea art, technology stills, behind-the-scenes photographs, and poster art.

There was a gargantuan put a question to ticket looming over the theatrical adaptation of Marvel’s Iron Man property. It was in the guise of director Jon Favreau. Now, don’t score me ghastly, I appreciate the Favs, but when I heard he was helming a large budget funny book flick…let’s impartial say I was a dinky stunned. Once his cast was site and the fanboys started humming across the internet I started to ease into the decision with high anticipation. Thankfully, after finally seeing the finished product, I was not disappointed in the least. With a grand mix of the professionalism and stakes seen in both Spider-Man and X-Men and the laughable wit and sheer fun of Amazing Four, Iron Man shows how a amusing can be brought to the shroud successfully without all the added drama and weight. We finally have a film with the essence of what makes these relate books so well-liked, the action and mythology along with a sense of adventure and humor. Favreau never bogs us down with overwrought emotions nor speaks down to us with gags and poorly written jokes. Instead he delivers on his promises and gives us a solid initiation into what could be a big trilogy or more.

Favreau seems to have had an opinion to earn an origin anecdote out while not dreary us with long drawn out relieve anecdote. His ability to give us dual information at once is nicely orchestrated, showing Tony Stark in his basement creating while the TV in the background explains what is happening in the outside world of the Middle East and inside his occupy company. We as an audience are allowed to build the pieces together amidst the witty banter of Stark and the fantastic special effects. By the waste of the film it is quite astonishing how considerable information you will realize you now know, all culminating in a decent final battle, but more importantly a segue into the inevitable sequel. We are allowed entrance into the character evolution of Stark as he goes from war profiteer to man of action and cause, all while seeing the technology improve and reach before our eyes. Remarkable like Batman, we have a hero here that needs wait on in fighting crime. He has no superhuman abilities besides his brain and being able to peruse his thoughts go from paper to reality is a feat of magic. Every stage is shown, every failure and success. It’s quite the pace in and of itself, but when you add onto it the threat of global war and destruction, it can only score better.

The proper success here is in the daring disappear of casting an actor over-40 to be a superhero. This takes guts, because no matter how appropriate it is, most studios would have said, “no, change the tale and create him younger so we can churn out as many of these babies as we can.” I don’t know how he did it, but Favreau got Marvel to rep Robert Downey Jr. to play Stark, a sarcastic Lothario with the brain capacity of Einstein. I truly can’t reflect of anyone better advantageous to the role and he proves it by nailing every single scene. I’m definite there was some ad-libbing, but even if not, his funny delivery and ability to switch on a dime to a proper seriousness at will shows his masterful craft.

As for the rest of the cast, they all do well. Jeff Bridges plays the bombastic creature of villainy over-the-top, but appropriately so; Terrence Howard is nice as the friend and military liaison, not given remarkable to do, but definitely sowing seeds for the future; and Gwyneth Paltrow is excellent as the sweet assistant Pepper Potts who at times seems a miniature underwritten and more female prop than anything else, but comes through with some nice moments in a very droll sort of arrangement. I also really liked Shaun Toub as Yinsen, Stark’s savior, and Clark Gregg as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Righteous to scrutinize Favreau giving another actor turned director props, (Gregg’s directorial debut comes out later this year in the make of Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke) . I impartial wish he would have shied away from putting himself in the film. It’s one thing to be seen split-second, (like Stan Lee), but its another to give yourself a thankless role with multiple scenes, unprejudiced adding fuel to the fire on people’s opinions of egotism stemming from the drinking game created off of the TV prove “Dinner for Five” and how many references to Swingers was made each episode. I’ll forgive, though, because, once again, I’m a immense fan.

One can’t forget that this is an action film above all else, so we can’t unbiased praise the actors; every attain is also quite incandescent. Those scenes of Iron Man flying amongst fighter jets in the trailer seemed really lame, but when in context they drawl. The suit itself is fantastic as well, through every mach stage lawful to the demolish. My main highlight, however, was with the computer systems that Stark utilizes. The multiple screens, instant holographic reproductions, and ability to actually interact with those 3D representations is aesthetic. We can originate them in fantasy, but it’s impartial too abominable we can’t yet in sincere life.

Now Iron Man is not a perfect film, nor even a perfect comical book adaptation. What it is, though, is a fun, laughable actioner that should light up the box office. The final showdown is a bit of a whimper in comparison to the assist myth and machine creation; a crucial element is saved from destruction in the one contrived bit of camouflage writing, (not quite utilized in the diagram I opinion, although quiet for the same means) ; and some moments seem a tad campy rather than witty, but otherwise this is some topnotch cinema that should definitely be seen on the immense cover. I can’t wait to view how the epic progresses in a couple years.

THE Blissful DIVORCE had been perhaps the most distinguished stage musical of Fred Astaire’s Broadway career. Though out the 1920s, he had been the lesser half of the most renowned dance team in American entertainment: Adele and Fred Astaire. Fred’s sister, an enormously gifted funny dancer, had been the center of the act throughout their career, but when she retired to marry English royalty, Fred was placed in the site of needing to reinvent himself and gather his career. Somewhat unexpectedly, Fred’s spacious success in THE Contented DIVORCE established him not honest as a amusing dancer, but as a romantic one as well. An offer by Hollywood to arrive and remake the stage success as a film was well-liked.

Fred arrived in Hollywood, but his studio, RKO cast him in FLYING TO RIO before beginning THE Delighted DIVORCE. Although he was fifth billed and the third billed male, his dance numbers with a contract dancer RKO had unbiased obtained from Warner Brothers, Ginger Rogers, were the hit of the film. Against his wishes, RKO suggested casting Rogers in THE Contented DIVORCE because of their success as a team in FLYING TO RIO. That was what Fred was terrified of: a team. He had unbiased managed to wreck free from being understanding of as the lesser half of Adele and Fred, and he was hesitant about a original partner. But RKO won out and, as they say, history was made.

THE Cheerful DIVORCE was speedily redubbed THE Cheerful DIVORCEE (the Hays office objecting that divorces could not be cheerful but were instead always miserable affairs, although a divorcee could be) . Fred was given nearly complete artistic control of his dance numbers, and instead of the highly choreographed numbers popularized by Busby Berkeley at Warner Brothers, Fred argued for filming his scenes with cameras unbiased barely above ground level, and as discontinuance to one shot as was possible. The result was an emphasis not on visual pyrotechnics, but on the intimacy and emotions in the dance.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Gay Divorcee! Click Here

The results were elegant. Although most of the songs from the stage musical were jettisoned, the greatest was kept, and in many ways it remains one of the mythic numbers in the history of musical cinema: Cole Porter’s “Night and Day.” The number defined for all time what Fred and Ginger were all about. Until this moment in the film, Fred had been futilely chasing Ginger, only to be rebuffed time and again. But once he begins to teach “Night and Day” she begins to have a twinge of interest. And once he grabs her arm and begins to dance with her, we manage to eye one of the immense seduction scenes in the movies. At the beginning of the song, she detached has no interest in him; at the raze of the dance, they are in adore. Although Ginger was never Fred’s equal as a dancer, she was wonderful in the manner in which she could reply emotionally to him in their dancing. Their dancing is so very nearly like love-making that we are not at all surprised that as the dance ends, and Fred’s gently spins and lowers Ginger onto a couch, he rocks assist on his heels, reaches into his jacket, and pulls out his cigarette and offers one to her. It is as perfect a moment as exists in film.

THE Ecstatic DIVORCEE succeeds primarily because of Fred and Ginger’s astonishing magic together, but it is also a delight because of the wonderful comedic cast. Erik Rhodes, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, had only two indispensable roles, both times as an Italian in two classic Astaire-Rogers films. In this film and in TOP HAT, he manages to hold nearly every scene he is in. Edward Everett Horton and Eric Blore both were so perfect in their roles that they reappeared in several other Astaire-Rogers films. Alice Brady brings her classic insanity to the film.

The film, of course, achieved Fred Astaire’s worst fears, and gave him a novel partner. But given the extraordinary success of Astaire and Rogers, I don’t mediate anyone believes that this was in any sense an depressed turn of events.

Fred Astaire plays a dnacer returning to England from a drag abroad. In the Customs shed he meets Ginger Rogers in an embarassing scrape. He tries to accept out who she is, but she refuses to advise him, and he spends ages searching London for her until he finally tracks her down and begins to awaken her interest. Ginger goes down to Brighton with her friend dithery much-married Alice Brady, and Astaire and his dithery lawyer friend Edward Everett Horton go in pursuit. Ginger has gone to Brighton to try and secure a divorce, she intends to use the night with a professional co-respondent. Somthing Astaire says makes her consider he is the co-respondent, which puts her factual off him. Fortunately the sincere co-respondent, a petite Italian, turns up (”your wife is trustworthy with Tonetti,he steal spaghetti”) and the mystery is sorted out. But what will happen when Ginger’s husband arrives the next morning? will she regain her divorce. This is a improbable film, with a funny but extremley laughable area, and some improbable dialogue, particularly between Horton and Brady, who somehow manage to slay up married to each other, great to their surprise. An absolutely scrumptious film.

In 1973’s Yowl, BLACULA, Yell!–an marvelous sequel to BLACULA (1972), the first scare entry in AIP’s “blaxploitation” line–William Marshall reprises his role as the aristocratic dim vampire Mamuwalde (a.k.a. Blacula) . Though he was killed by sunlight at the waste of the first film, the vampire brother is resurrected when his bones are venerable as share of an tainted voodoo rite. Realizing the preternatural potential of voodoo magic, the revivified Mamuwalde enlists the assist of a glowing and mighty voodoo priestess (Pam Grier) in hopes of being forever freed from the curse of vampirism.

As before, actor Marshall’s Shakespearean training and deep, rich, booming express construct the foundation of his outstanding performance as the sympathetic but dynamic titular character. In fact, this talented African-American actor brings dignity and intelligence to any role he plays–even off-beat characters like Blacula–and he has therefore appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including genre flicks like SKULLDUGGERY (1970), ABBY (1974), AMAZON WOMEN ON THE MOON (1987), and SORCERESS (1995) ; and genre TV shows such as the current THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., classic STAR Toddle (Dr. Richard Daystrom in the episode “The Ultimate Computer”), and THE WILD WILD WEST.

Also adding to the quality and entertainment value of Weep, BLACULA, Yowl! is the portrayal of the voodoo priestess, Sarah, by the dazzling Pam Grier. Though noted for playing colorful, strong, no-nonsense shadowy women in other blaxploitation flicks of the 1970s, her character here is admittedly toned down compared to those other roles, but she unruffled delivers a solid performance and is a astounding compliment to Marshall.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Scream, Blacula, Scream! Click Here

Many of the other supporting actors also turn in some valid performances. Don Mitchell appears as Justin, Sarah’s boyfriend, and some viewers will lickety-split inspect him from his longtime role as Heed Sanger on TV’s unusual IRONSIDE. Michael Conrad, later of HILL STREET BLUES fame, does a superb job playing the skeptical Sheriff Dunlop, and Richard Lawson delivers some hilarious laughable relief as Blacula’s vampiric servant.

Any lover of low-budget 1970s dismay will delight in Shout, BLACULA, Bellow. The special FX are endearingly cheesy–dig that animation in those vamp-to-bat and bat-to-vamp transformations–the acting is huge, the women are sparkling, and the situation offers impartial the legal mix of laughs and chills. Though this one is not helmed by the same director as BLACULA–instead it’s Bob Kelljan, who also directed the exquisite COUNT YORGA vampire films–the same spirit and quality is maintained throughout, so anybody who enjoyed that first film will definitely want to glance this better-than-average sequel.

The DVD edition of Weep, BLACULA, Wail from MGM–released as portion of the company’s “Soul Cinema” line, though it and its predecessor, BLACULA, could have fair as easily fit in with MGM’s “Midnite Movie” series–offers an anamorphic widescreen transfer in the novel aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and it appears that the print aged for the transfer was in obedient shape. No extras are offered other than the theatrical trailer, but the very reasonable brand makes this flick painlessly accessible to any horror-film collector.

In my concept, Bellow, Blacula, Roar is every bit as respectable as Blacula. Rather than offering a pedestrian rehash of the whole vampirism memoir of the fresh, the sequel throws another much force, that of voodoo, into the mix and gives the film a whole modern direction. William Marshall is unprejudiced as helpful as before in the title role, and he meets up with a valid possible antagonist in Pam Grier, who plays the gifted voodoo priestess he seeks out for wait on. Blacula, resurrected in his undead region with no further possibility of reclaiming the novel incarnation of his beloved bride, now seeks to crash the curse that has made him a bloodthirsty, yet exceedingly wintry, pariah on society. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to support killing people and turning them into vampires in the meantime, however, so put a question to more jugular action as this film winds its intention to a conclusion.

If you’ve seen the first film, you know Blacula fair didn’t wake up and return to his vampire ways. It had to engage something astounding to set that bag of bones succor together – something like, say, a voodoo ritual. The local voodoo cult honest so happens to be divided after the leader dies without naming a successor. The boring high priestess’ son Willis (Richard Lawson) claims the top spot, but everyone else defers to Lisa (Pam Grier) . Willis wants revenge, and he finds what he thinks is the perfect instrument in the beget of the resurrected Blacula. Of course, nobody tells Blacula what to do, and Willis is immediately made the first of the vampire’s original minions (and he is far from ecstatic when he learns he can no longer like his first-rate looks and new fashion sense in the mirror) . A number of vampiric murders ensue, drawing the notable leer of the local police, but Blacula sets his sights on Lisa once he realizes that her voodoo gifts may absorb the power to free him of his unfriendly curse. Her boyfriend Justin (Don Mitchell), a passe cop, is the first to keep all the clues together, and all parties collide in the film’s concluding scenes. Will Blacula be freed of his poor curse?

Scream, Blacula, Shout lacks some of the humor of the first film, and it doesn’t really try as hard to apprehension the audience, either. Even mild, I enjoyed this film as noteworthy as I did the current. It’s really an impressive sequel, coming only a year after Blacula singlehandedly brought the blaxploitation alarm subgenre to life. Pam Grier fans will be disappointed if they question to examine the terrible action star of Foxy Brown and other films, but the character of Blacula should satisfy most of your butt-kicking needs. Personally, I judge the filmmakers should have gone with the alternate title Blacula is Sparkling, but this is quiet a must-have blaxploitation anxiety film that looks and sounds better than ever thanks to fresh technology.

This stylish, hip thriller of the early 80’s is a cult classic. Featuring Wilhelmenia Wiggins-Fernandez, a real-life Diva. In the film she plays Cynthia Hawkins, an opera singer who refuses to describe her music.

Frédéric Andréi (Jules) is a loner messenger boy, who makes a lovely bootleg recording of one of her recitals. He also becomes the unknowing recipient of a tape containing evidence about the Paris underworld, setting off a chain of events where everyone’s motives are misunderstood.

Sad to say, this respectable film is seriously marred by the worst sound transfer I have ever heard on a DVD. It is muddy and indistinct, grand worse than most VHS tapes. Because the drawl of Wilhelmenia Wiggins-Fernandez is central to the dwelling, the awful audio quality makes it hard to understand why anyone would compose such a fuss about recording her.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Diva – Meridian Collection! Click Here

The video transfer is not gargantuan, but passable, however the audio quality seriously dimishes the impact of a genuine film. If you listen to the compact disk soundtrack, you’ll know what you’re missing. This DVD looks like it was rushed to market with very shrimp notion or care. The film deserves a better fate.

Bravo. Anchor Bay understands why many of us are buying DVDs of films we never would have considered purchasing on video: not merely because they are available, but because of the QUALITY. Their “Diva” release is a prime example of this, and I won’t bother extolling the virtues of the movie *as* a movie since the Amazon.com review and the other reviewers have done that so well.

I haven’t seen the earlier Fox Lorber enlighten of “Diva”, but from the reviews I read here, and from the Fox Lorber titles I unfortunately occupy, I can only imagine that they (Fox Lorber) did their usual criminally indifferent – or is it agressively incompetent? – job, making no attempt to well-organized up the image and sound on a poor-quality master, but rather doing a quick-and-dirty transfer in order to be first to market, before the public wises up.

With that as the background, then, the unique Anchor Bay release of “Diva” was well worth waiting for. The image quality is simply fine – dapper, positive and crisp, with no discernable noise, dirt, or other undesireable visual artifacts. It’s comparable in quality to Paramount’s top-notch work on the “Chinatown” DVD, or most anything in The Criterion Collection’s great series. Another very advantageous surprise is the restored and updated sound which, on the Fox Lorber release, was rated even below the awful quality of the image. Fans of “Diva” know that it has one of the most original and memorable soundtracks of the many memorable 1980s movie soundtracks, and I cannot remember it ever sounding better than it does on the novel Anchor Bay release.

So again, thank you, Anchor Bay, for doing justice to one of my popular films on DVD. And as for you, Fox Lorber, isn’t there a better business model out there than doing violence to art for money?

Jacques Becker’s LE TROU (THE HOLE) is one of the most intense, worthy and thrilling crime movie in film history.

Men–convicts–in a prison cell position a dynamic dash by digging a hole (hence the title) in their prison cell. This is the basic state of it, that’s all. And the dramatic arena is naturally very limited; basically everything in a confinement of a prison. The actions are also mainly microscopic to the act of digging.

By deliberately limiting his cinematic palette to bare-bone simplicity, Jacques Becker weaves out a complex web of human camaraderie and conflicts. You have to trust one another to commit this kind of sprint, but at the same time, can you really trust these fellow inmates? All the dramatic ellements concentrate into this fundamental interrogate about human relationship. And from there florishies a blooming, awesome drama of wild, strong men, naturally with the currents of their hold vulnerabilities underneath, which quite often finds its contrivance to burst in front of your eyes.

A generous ensemble cast including some of the finest character actors in french cinema and one man who actually experienced this fable (Jean Keraudy, who introduces the film as his believe account) creates an extraoridinary psychological as well as physical realism.

And the harsh, stark black&white cinematography can be easily pointed out as one of the highest achievement in attempting to fabricate an imediate realistic experience as a cinematic imagery in film history.

In one word, this is a must inspect film, a masterpiece. Both an titillating crime drama, and a good work of art.

*note: jacaues becker ancient to be assitant director to jean renoir in the 1930’s, and appears into films such as Boudu Saved from Drowning and Colossal Illusion

Based on a right fable, “LE TROU” is a 42 year veteran French thriller that is slight known in the U.S. but is being (re) discovered by videophiles as a tense, sweat-inducing masterpiece. The area is amazingly simple: Five guys in a prison cell awaiting trial, place an hurry by digging a hole (”le trou”) into the Parisian sewers. The perfect dim and white cinematography, the ultra minimalist state, confined setting and shifting character relationships acquire this a kind of Zen noir meditation on the primal, universal, desire to be Free. Director Jacques Becker died shortly after this film was completed, and this is a fitting epitaph to a truncated prize-winning career. The film opens with a statement that removes all obstacles to suspending disbelief. Jean Keraudy, one of the right life participants of the events depicted in the movie, and an actor in the movie, says, “My Friend Jacques Becker recreated a honest anecdote in all its detail. My tale. It took location in 1947 at the Santé prison.” The thing that intrigued Becker was the ingenuity of the intention and the courage of the undertaking. Three members of the recent speed served as consultants and Keraudy himself plays the character Roland in the film. The suspense never lets up as we participate with these desperate, ingenious, meticulous, men as a collective force seeking freedom. There’s a feeling of genuine time and no music derive to enhance or detract. The DVD has no important extras. The widescreen transfer is spruce and racy and the sound is crisp. It’s in French with optional, easy to read subtitles and there’s a six page booklet with two enthralling essays. Thanks to Criterion, this enormous film has been plucked from obscurity, beautifully mastered, and is now finding the appreciative audience it deserves. Don’t miss it.

I watched Iron Eagle when it came out in the theaters in 1986. I was in college, and it was absurd. A teenager and his buddies with an air reservist assume a couple of F-16’s and manage to flit across the atlantic, attack an entire country and recover a single person? Impossible!

But if reality is what you are looking for, rep a documentary. This is objective ample old-fashion fun. The site has holes, but the action is there. The Ample guys are truly white hats and the bad, stereo-typed middle-eastern despot/colonel is dripping with foul.

gotta cherish the fun,… expecially the dog fighting scenes.

When I was 6 years traditional, my father give this movie that recorded from TV in 1989. That time I’m kindergarden boy. but this movie very tremendous, gargantuan impact in my life. This movie treat war chronicle. So some people may judge this stuff feel very cruel. But that’s immoral! this movie treat humanism like father & son. Doug rescue Father in enemy line. So this every scenes that Doug’s try try so hard behave is so moved to me. now I’m 21 years feeble. and now I’m “South Korea Airforce Academy” Student. In the demolish dream reach factual.Like Doug Masters. So I’m very proud about me and this movie. Someday I’ll drive F-16. This movie’s give me a my dream. Change My Life~ Doug & Father’s meet scene is never forget it..thorough all my life.

Gray (Jennifer Garner) conception that she and her fiance Grady would be getting married this weekend, but instead she’s attending his funeral. Already destroyed at the loss of what could have been, she’s devastated to learn that Grady had a secret life that he kept from her including a million dollar estate and a toddler cherish child. When the mother of said child comes looking for Grady, she must confront the past in order to have a future. Juliette Lewis gives her all as the slightly trampy quasi-Earth mother.

As Gray comes to terms with his betrayal, she turns to his roommates for solace and a dwelling to pause since she can no longer afford the house they were renting. Through this quasi-extended family, she discovers the Grady she never knew, as well as the Gray that she is now becoming, and finds herself getting closer to his lothario friend Fritz (Timothy Olyphant), as friends Sam and Dennis also experience peril dealing with the loss of their friend.

Writer/director Susannah Grant, best known as the scribe slow “Erin Brokovich” and “In Her Shoes,” has created a poignant legend of esteem, loss, and forgiveness. Kevin Smith shows a serious side as well as provides droll relief as Sam, the inspirational comment writer (okay, typist) for “Constant Comment Teas.” Faded British actress Fiona Shaw, hysterical as the horny headmistress of the tony boarding school in “Three Men and a Limited Lady,” dons an American accent and gives a heartwarming performance of a mother who objective wants her son befriend. And Juliette Lewis is a bit chiched in the role of flighty masseuse Maureen, who apparently doesn’t absorb a pair of flat shoes.

Though some might bag the romance between Gray and Fritz get a dinky too mercurial, I idea it was handled tastefully given the love-hate relationship between them and how thin the line between the two can be (though the ending was a bit rushed) . Missing from the film was Grady himself – a couple flashbacks with him would have added depth to the relationship between Gray and Grady and given us a chance to salvage out what made him such a touchstone for the five lead characters.

The disc’s special features are minimal – fair lots of movie trailers and commentary – nothing to write home about.

Okay, most of the time a film tries to be allotment comedy, share drama and section buddy characterize, what it ends up being is a total smash! Find and Release beats the odds by being all the above while avoiding total smash plot. It’s that rarest of things, a film that reveals you don’t have to be married or be blood to grieve for somone you like and how many emotions grieving can announce… including humor.

There is that chick-flick quality that will have guys begging off, but fortunately for me Kevin Smith acting in a film he didn’t deliver was enough to convince me to go. The man can actually act, and not fair in his have films. Unlike other films where a nonactor tries to step up, Kevin Smith was not a blank situation on the cover. He held his contain and then some. There’s even a distinct degree of self parody of his profound-statement-delivering Tranquil Bob charater.

Moving on from Kevin, everyone else also did an estimable job. Jennifer Garner (Alias), Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood), Julliette Lewis, Sam Jaeger, Fiona Shaw and everyone else turned in strong performances as people trying to advance to terms with the effort of losing a best friend, a fiancee, a provider and a son.

I found myself laughing at the contemptible yet droll realism.

From what I understand this is Susannah Grants major motion recount directorial debut, but it didn’t feel like it. Already an extremely well proven shroud writer, this may be Susannah’s first movie directing job, but with this many laughs and this grand emotion, I know it won’t be her last.

Recognizing they needed something to maintain the whole family glued to the television station, the writers appear to have focused many episodes this season on Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) . With his brooding capable looks and ability to withhold house, he is the housewife’s ideal companion.

The season opens with a minor emergency in the Tanner family household. While playing hairdresser, Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) accidentally sever off a tuft of her uncle Jesse’s important hair. Brushing aside the improbability that he would have allowed anybody reach his hair with scissors, this is a comic episode because Stephanie later blames herself when he gets in a motorcycle rupture.

Stamos actually gets a haircut this season, shedding his 80’s locks for something which is so powerful more sophisticated and hot. Now it’s easy to recognize why he was positioned as the Romeo of this otherwise wholesome series.

Jesse meets his Juliet because Danny gives up sports casting to become the fresh host of “Wake up San Francisco”-with Rebecca Donaldson (Lori Loughlin) . These morning shows aren’t known for their hard-nosed journalists, but Rebecca is an knowing young woman who does not play the fool. She sees through Jesse’s bravado.

This season also sees Joey Gladstone (Dave Couiler) ’s character perform further. After realizing that he has to `get tough’ on the girls so they don’t budge all over him, Joey lets loose on DJ (Candace Cameron) after she comes in tedious (”Joey Gets Tough”) . Coulier’s underappreciated as an actor because his `strict Joey’ sounded exactly how my dad did when I did something that I wasn’t supposed to.

Jesse disciplines DJ when she and Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) accidentally tape over a Rippers recording in “Fogged Inn” . Because it is a family sitcom, all is swiftly forgiven and Jesse makes up for his having yelled at DJ by giving her a unusual drums dwelling.

During “Pal Joey”, Danny confides that he feels the 20-year friendship agreement which the guys made with each other to always be there is being broken. Since they all moved in together, Jesse and Joey have become large friends. Danny’s overjoyed that people are getting along, but the site is miserable for him.

DJ has an dejected space in “El Problema Grande de DJ” because her dad and Spanish teacher become romantically fervent. This is poor for any kid, but having the teacher of your hardest class dating your parent means that you probably won’t be lop any kind of slack-and would be expected to work significantly harder. Again, this episode holds up well years later because it tackles a timeless disaster of kids with sensitivity.

Finally, Jesse proposes to Becky when “Wake Up San Francisco” films a special in Lake Tahoe, Novel Mexico (”Luck be a Lady” ) . The two-part season finale also has some drama, after they have a tainted *for them* fight and get up, Jesse wants to marry Rebecca hastily and secretly without the rest of his family shimmering what is happening.

21 episodes of the 88-89 season provide a limited bit of everything. The Beach Boys even get a special appearance as themselves in an episode when they agree to play with Jesse’s band in a private concert at the house. It is objective enough to preserve your acquire burly house mildly entertained.

‘Full House: The Complete Second Season’ highlights what is arguably the most significant season in the history of this series. It is worthy to buy most people looking at this dvd space are familiar with the note. For those who are not, Corpulent House is centered around a single father, Danny Tanner (Bob Sagat), who is trying to raise his three daughters with the abet of his brother-in-law and best friend. You could catch away with comparing it to a loose television version of ‘Three Men and A Baby.’ Rotund House has taken some criticism, mostly in modern years, over being too wholesome and unrealistic. Being a fan of the series since its inception, I hold this isn’t entirely right. Over the years on the explain, the kids grow up and encounter inspect pressure. The adults date, change jobs and struggle with the trial and error of raising children. In that respect, it is like a accurate American family.

The first season, also available, was mainly to set the characters and salvage the Tanner family settled. This season takes those existing characters and runs with them. The reason this particular state of episodes is so considerable to fans of Elephantine House is because a lot of events happen here that shape the final outcome of the series. Honest for starters, Jesse meets and courts Becky. Jesse and Danny both change careers during this time period. We’ll try to limit any other spoilers of future episodes as considerable as possible in this review.

All twenty-two episodes, including a season ending cliffhanger, are packaged onto four dvd’s. The set-up is nearly identical to the packaging of the first season, except for current cloak art. One grand flaw is the intention the discs are packaged on top of each other. To acquire to a disc you want on the bottom, you are forced to steal the top one first. Aside from that, the packaging is quite nice. A brief fold-out lists the episodes in chronological order. You derive the name of each episode, the writer/director, new tv airdate and a synopsis.

There are a few episodes on here which are not really pivotal to future seasons, which is the case with each season of any long-running tv series. That is normal. Highlighting some of the necessary ones, you could launch on the first dvd with “Tanner Vs. Gibler”, which quietly introduces the character of Rebecca Donaldson (Lori Loughlin) . Without spoiling all the details, Rebecca later goes on to be the main admire interest for Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) and remains on the explain in the seasons following this one. You’d have to stare later episodes to perceive what eventually happens with them.

In this same episode, Danny is also moved from leisurely night sportscaster to morning demonstrate talk host. This exhibit, ‘Wake Up San Francisco’, becomes Danny’s job for several seasons to arrive. The next episode on Disc 1 is “It’s Not My Job.” Here, Jesse ditches his exterminator job (which he held in Season 1) to pursue a music career. While a potential spoiler, Jesse continues on with his music throughout the remainder of the Beefy House series.

“Jingle Hell” is the beginning of Joey and Jesse’s advertising career, which is the focus of several later episodes. “Beach Boy Bingo” is important for being the first Bulky House appearance of Mike Cherish and his Beach Boys. The Beach Boys would go on to accomplish several guest appearances in later seasons, to the chagrin of many Plump House critics.

The second dvd begins with “Joey Gets Tough”, in which Dave Coulier’s character is finally given authority to discipline the girls when Danny is not around. “Our Very First Christmas Display” is the standard sitcom holiday episode. “A Exiguous Romance” gives D.J. (Candace Cameron) her first exact boyfriend and later, a break-up. This also is the episode where Jesse finally makes some headway with Rebecca, after pursuing her all season, leading to the events on the season finale.

On Disc 3, “Small Shop of Sweaters” deserves a footnote for being an obligatory shoplifting episode. The only other really distinguished episode on the third dvd is “Goodbye, Mr. Enjoy.” Most Chubby House fans will score interest in this one, because it is the only time in the entire series you ever notice Danny’s slack wife, Pam Tanner, in a home video. Pam didn’t even appear in the Pilot of Season 1, she had already passed away, though she is often talked about throughout the series.

The most principal thing on Disc 4, besides the scant bonus features, would be the final two episodes. “Luck Be A Lady” is a two-part closer to this season in which Jesse spontaneously proposes to Rebecca in Lake Tahoe. It doesn’t turn out quite like you might assume. Another scene, where Joey “wins” a gargantuan fortune on the slot machines is genuinely comical.

Again, there are a lot of indispensable episodes in the second season of Corpulent House. This was early in the series when the writing was favorable, the storylines recent and the cast was smaller. As time went along, in later seasons, more and more characters got added to the mix who didn’t always need to be there. The later in the series you go, the less pivotal the episodes were. Reach the kill, a lot of pointless episodes cropped up which did nothing to construct the characters.

While grand has been said about how at various times either Jesse or Michelle was the main focus of Chunky House, all of the characters were focal points in Season 2. The bonus features here are diminutive but remember that there may not be worthy stuff left over from the cutting room floor. TV series from the 1980’s were certainly not shot with DVD-bonus features in mind for years down the road.

If you are a devoted fan of Fat House from relieve in the 1980’s or 90’s, then you will want to steal ‘The Complete Second Season.’ That is a given. If you are modern to the point to or otherwise unsure, Season 2 is a excellent dwelling to launch if you are objective trying the note out. Of course, ‘The Complete First Season’ is unruffled best for anybody making their first visit to Plump House.
